Institutional crypto platform Anchorage Digital has made a strategic investment in blockchain security provider Immunefi, purchasing its native IMU tokens as part of a broader collaboration aimed at strengthening security infrastructure for institutional decentralized finance (DeFi).
The move reflects growing demand for institutional-grade protections as large financial players increasingly interact with on-chain protocols. Anchorage Digital said the partnership will help integrate Immunefi’s security expertise into its ecosystem, particularly for users of Porto, the firm’s institutional self-custody wallet.
Under the arrangement, Anchorage Digital Ventures acquired IMU tokens—the core asset powering the Immunefi ecosystem—to align incentives between security researchers, protocols, and institutional participants. The companies said the partnership will focus on delivering enhanced risk management tools and vulnerability detection capabilities for institutional DeFi operations.
Immunefi has become one of the most prominent bug-bounty and security coordination platforms in the crypto industry. The firm reports protecting more than $180 billion in digital assets and maintaining a global network of over 60,000 security researchers who identify vulnerabilities before they can be exploited. Since its launch, the platform has facilitated over $130 million in bug bounty payouts to ethical hackers.
The IMU token plays a central role in this ecosystem. Built as a utility and governance asset, it helps incentivize responsible vulnerability disclosures, reward contributors, and coordinate security efforts across protocols. The token launched in early 2026 with a fixed supply of 10 billion tokens and allocations designed to support ecosystem incentives, developers, and early backers.
For Anchorage Digital, the investment signals a strategic bet on security infrastructure as institutional capital continues flowing into DeFi. The firm’s Porto wallet enables institutions to interact directly with blockchain networks, execute swaps, and deploy on-chain strategies while maintaining self-custody over digital assets.
However, greater exposure to DeFi also introduces new risk vectors—from smart-contract exploits to protocol vulnerabilities—making security partnerships increasingly critical for institutional adoption.
Executives from both companies said the collaboration aims to combine Anchorage’s regulated crypto banking infrastructure with Immunefi’s threat intelligence and bug-bounty network. The integration is expected to expand protections for institutional investors navigating decentralized markets.
As institutional participation accelerates across the digital asset sector, partnerships between custody providers and security platforms may become a key pillar of the industry’s next growth phase—ensuring that the infrastructure supporting on-chain finance evolves alongside its expanding user base.
